WHAT DOES THE NJSEFA DO FOR ME?
Several experienced members on a state
wide basis form a body of knowledge
that can educate fire fighters about their rights.
A legislative committee keeps you
abreast of assembly bills which can affect
you in a positive or negative way.
Exemption
from jury duty, not automatic. Your exempt firemen's certificate
must be recorded in the County Clerk's office. Questionnaires from your County
Jury Commissioners must be answered properly and
returned promptly.
Tenure
in office applies to positions in government that are not for a fixed term
and not protected otherwise, such as by Civil Service. Assistance in this area, if
required, may be provided by the state association.
A
free hawker's license. It may not be as popular as in the past, however, the
law exists.
Your local exempt association elects an exempt delegate to attend the NJ
State Firemen's Convention in Wildwood. Exempt firemen who are members
of local associations that comprise the state association have a significant impact
when supporting or opposing pending legislation. Numbers are important.
A Memorial Service is held once a year
at various churches through out the
state. Local associations have the opportunity to host the memorial service in
their community. Attendance is not limited to exempt members and their families.
All firemen and their families are welcome and encouraged to attend.
A one day convention is held annually.
Local associations can also host this
event in conjunction with their own department event and or parade. (a Parade
is not required but preferred)
Tentative future sites for the State Exempt Firemen's Association Convention are
as follows: 2008 Boonton; 2009 West Paterson; 2010 Wanaque; 2011 Milltown;
2012 Florence; 2013 Bound Brook; 2014 Phillipsburg; 2015 Whippany.
2016 to 2021 Available; 2022 Woodbridge.
A convention journal is published annually. This book contains a wealth of
information about The State Exempt Firemens Association including the names
of state, county and local representatives. There
is also a large cross section of
businesses and organizations that support us by placing ads in the journal.
